Sharpening pencils

I like September and that new term feeling you get. I know it's the end of summer and the nights are drawing in and lots of other cliches but I relish the sense of looking forward and settling back down to proper work.  It seems to be a much better time for resolutions than January which is all hangovers, overdrafts and freezing studios - more penance than renewal. It's a great time to take stock of the past year and make plans for the one to come.  This September I'm trying to balance achievements with the 'not there yet' - it's always the things not managed, the work that didn't quite work, the giant leap forward not quite made that most readily come to mind rather than the simple, solid, small steps in the right direction so I'm trying to those some space as well.

So September means pencils sharpened, lists written, plans made and new ideas to be explored - it's also the time that I start my bramble whiskey, damson vodka and sloe gin but I'm sure that has nothing to do with my bright new mood . . . .
