British Ceramics Biennial Research Residency

I'm really excited to be part of a group research residency for this year's British Ceramics Biennial.  We're a group of 9 ceramicists from the Crafts Council's Hothouse scheme for emerging makers and we'll be making work in direct response to the Spode factory site in Stoke. I've had pictures of the walls of the Spode factory in my sketchbook since I exhibited as part of Fresh at the last biennial in 2011 so it's an amazing opportunity to make work for the building. I'm particularly drawn to the walls, to the layers of paint for both colour and texture.

My plan is to make wall panels that take the walls as their starting point and somehow take the surface qualities out of context and re-present them to expose the beauty I find in them.
